Tunisian Students on a general strike today!

The General Union for the Tunisian Students called for a general student strike today. The strike came after a period of struggle and injustice inflicted upon the students which reached its peak when the university kicked out more than 30 students for their student union activism, which is inacceptable!

The General Union called for the strike for the following reasons:

1- The detoriaration of the financial and educational situation of the students: the majority of the tunisian students, along with their families, are suffering the burden of the expenses of high education. And the university grants for the students can no longer cover the minimum of the students' expenses due to rising costs of life and inflation.

2- The ministry of supervision keeps parachuting programs on students and professors without consulting them or making them participate in the process.

3- The systematic targeting of the Student Union through putting 5 of its militants in prison, and kicking more than 30 out of university.

4- The refusal of the authorities to launch a dialogue with the students, and the agression against the militants of the students union.

For all those reasons the General Union of the tunisian students called for a general student strike today. 

The university is a vital space for activism, dialogue, and for contribution to the society's development, infringing the righs of students is not acceptable!

Solidarity with our Tunisian comrades struggeling against the tyranny of the regime and for the rights of the students to participate in the elaboration of university programs, to exercise their union work or any political activity on campus!

قررت الهيئة الإدارية الوطنية للاتحاد العام لطلبة تونس المنعقدة يوم السبت 31/01/2009بالمقر المركزي للاتحاد العام لطلبة تونس إضرابا عاما وطنيا يوم الخميس 26 فيفري 2009 وقد شرحت الهيئة الإدارية الوطنية دوافع هذا الإضراب وتنفيذا لهذه المقررات يتوجه المكتب التنفيذي للاتحاد العام لطلبة تونس إلى الرأي العام الطلابي والوطني بالاتي:
1. مزيد تردي الأوضاع المادية والبيداغوجية للطلبة حيث أن عموم طلبة تونس يعانون إلى جانب عائلاتهم وطأة تكاليف التعليم العالي أمام المحافظة على نفس مقدار المنحة الجامعية التي لم تعد تف بالحد الأدنى من مصاريف الحياة الجامعية إلى جانب المحافظة على مقياس إسنادها دون مراعاة علاء المعيشة والأسعار هذا وتنضاف إلى ذلك معضلة السكن الجامعي الذي أصبح يمثل هاجس آلاف الطلبة الجدد مما يدفعهم إلى ابتزاز أصحاب المبيتات الخاصة كما أن جل المبيتات الجامعية تفتقد للصيانة.
2. مواصلة وزارة الإشراف إسقاط البرامج على الطلبة والأساتذة وآخرها منظومة إمد والفوضى المتواصلة التي تكتنفها دون الأخذ بعين الاعتبار ملاحظات الأساتذة والطلبة.
3. استهداف الإتحاد العام لطلبة تونس عبر سجن خمس من مناضليه وطرد حوالي 30 من مناضليه ومسؤوليه وحرمان المنظمة الطلابية من اجتماع هيئاتها العليا "المؤتمر".
4. غلق باب الحوار في وجه الطلبة ومسؤولي الإتحاد والاستخفاف بهم والاعتداء عليهم بأساليب متنوعة. 
لكل هذه الأسباب ولتواصل تردي الوضع الجامعي برمته ندعو كافة الطلبة إل تلبية نداء الإتحاد العام لطلبة تونس والدخول في إضراب عن الدروس يوم الخميس 26/02/2009 هذا ولا يفوتنا أن نحيط الرأي العام الطلابي ونحن ندعوهم إلى إنجاح الإضراب العام الوطني و05 من مناضلي الإتحاد في إضراب عن الطعام منذ 14 يوما دفاعا عن حقهم في الدراسة وحق المنظمة في النشاط بعيدا عن كل أشكال الحصار والتضييق ومن أجل عقد مؤتمرها الوطني الموحد 25 وإطلاق سراح كل مناضليها المسجونين.

عاش الإتحاد العام لطلبة تونس مناضلا، مستقلا وديمقراطيا.
